Lessard Research Group - Next Generation Materials for Next Generation Applications
Dr. Nicole Rice (PDF)
The elusive Dr. Nicole Rice has been with us since October 2016 yet has not yet been captured by camera... her Ninja like skills are the reason she is great in the lab while avoiding detection.
Owen Melville (Ph.D. Candidate)
Virgo. Year of the Rabbit. INTP. Blood type O+. Ravenclaw. Both a cat and a dog person. Once had his ear pierced for one month. Keeps misplacing his iron ring. Academic interests include electronic properties of materials, programming, and being sceptical. Hobbies include board/card games, playing guitar, and eating all the pizza.
Marie est fan d'animaux et de voyages. Apres la France, l'Angleterre et l'Australie, son amour pour les sciences a mené ses nouvelles aventures au Canada. Espérons qu'elle résiste aux glaciales températures!
Brendan Mirka (Ph.D. Student)
Brendan used to work as a janitor at the university, until Benoit caught him solving math equations on the blackboard. In his spare time he enjoys hanging out with Ben Affleck and watching Patriots' games.
Nicholas Boileau (Ph.D. Student)
Nic wanted to become an NHL goalie like every good Canadian boy, but Engineering seems to have won out...
Mikhail (Mike) Vorona (Ph.D. Student)
Addicted to coffee, comedy and good movies. Mike used to wrestle and box avidly, but now his pastime is cooking and feeding his friends instead of fighting them. Chemical engineering is basically cooking things you cant eat, so he is in the right place!
Chithiravel Sundaresan (PhD Student)
Chiti enjoys reading books, cooking and playing table tennis. He obtained MSc physics from Bharathiar University, India. His research interest is on flexible electronic devices and interface study in organic solar cell. He also works at the National research council, Canada (NRC Ottawa). Co-supervised with Dr. Ye Tao.
Mario, as his name suggests, is a Nintendo enthusiast. He is Brazilian and moved from the harsh summer to Canada’s cozy winter, in hopes to create great OPVs. Scientific interests focus on solar energy, materials development and nanotechnology
Zachary John Comeau (M.A.Sc. Student)
Zach likes cooking, lifting, hunting moose and having two bosses.
Sam's love of cats is rivaled only by her love of science. These might both be caused by brain parasites, but we may never know. If science and engineering don't pan out, she has a promising backup career in collecting empties from the neighbours' garbage with her shopping cart full of cats.
Mathieu Tousignant (M.A.Sc. Student)
Mat used to aimlessly wander the halls of the University of Ottawa searching for his own maniacal doomsday lab. But, one day he had the chance to work in Dr.Lessards lab, he found the chemistry was great so he’s been there ever since!
Kaitlin Wagner (M.A.Sc. Student)
Kaitlin is too pale to absorb sunlight, so maybe her OPVs can do a better job.
Rose Cranston (Undergrad)
Rose originally registered for chemical engineering after reading Primo Levi's "The Periodic Table" and was disappointed to learn that chemical engineering did not involve writing autobiographies. Rose has not quite moved past her love of books but has found interest in organic electronics.
Victoria Hillier (Undergrad)
Victoria is a chemist by training but has been lured to the world of chemical engineering with promises of applying her chemistry skills to the fabrication of organic electronics. She is one of us now.
Ben King (Undergrad)
When Ben isn't found in the lab enjoying the smell of Acetone, he can be found listening to jazz music and making terrible puns. His favourite apparatus is the NMR machine; something about it seems to resonate with him.
